The owners of the Express and its sister publication LattéLife, made the offer to buy The Bowral News

CORPORATE TAKEOVER BY LOCAL MEDIA EMPIRE
A two-bit local rag has staged a brutal corporate takeover in acquiring one of its rivals to stave off any chance of competition.
Espresso Media, the owners of the Southern Highlands Express, saw the writing on the wall in January this year when The Bowral News started publishing in the Highlands. The new online journal was an attempt by Sydney’s Daily Telegraph to get a foothold in the Wingecarribee Shire.
According to a media insider, “The editor of the Express found out The Bowral News was going to take a good portion of the Express’s market share, so they had no other option but to make the Daily Telegraph an offer too good to be true.”
The owners of the Express and its sister publication LattéLife, made the offer to buy The Bowral News right after Facebook banned all Australian news sites, and by all accounts, they ended up getting it for a steal.
“Adelaide Lang is a great reporter,” said acting editor, Rosie Drew, when contacted at the Express’s head office in Sydney. “But she just didn’t have the heart and soul to be able start a whole new publication by herself, so we made her an offer she couldn’t refuse, and we now own The Bowral News lock, stock and two smoking barrels.”
When asked if Espresso Media will continue publishing The Bowral News in competition with its own papers, and whether or not it’ll be retaining the services of Adelaide Lang, Rosie replied, “Absolutely not. We purchased the business to shut down competition. Adelaide Lang will just have to go back to Sydney and find herself another job.”
A recently sacked Express journalist, Costa Haritos, was contacted and had this to say about the takeover. “The Express owners operating out of Sydney were in a terrible panic when the Daily Telegraph started a regional paper. They ranted about losing market share, and how they’d all just bought mansion’s in Sydney, and now might not be able to afford the mortgage repayments.”
According to Costa, the Express owners were also concerned their two papers would be run out of business, “after they’d worked so hard to obtain Federal Government grant money to start up the Expresses in the Highlands and Goulburn.”
The new owners of The Bowral News have already applied to trademark their purchase after being the victims of a fraudulent transaction in 2016. A current Espresso Media employee explained what happened: “In the lead up to the 2016 elections, a notoriously corrupt businessman bought the name LattéLife Southern Highlands in an attempt to stop Lattélife from publishing their election special edition (after the owners forgot to renew the registration). The dodgy businessman issued all sorts of legal threats if the LattéLife owners went ahead with the publication, but in the end, they simply changed the name to LattéLife Wingecarribee, and the sinister plan was thwarted.”
The employee (who wished to remain anonymous) went on to say, “Since then, the owners of the Express and LattéLife always make sure they trademark their business names just in case there’s some other attempt to steal their business titles.”
After further investigation, it’s been determined the owners of Espresso Media live in Sydney, along with all of the journalists and staff. All advertising revenue ends up in Sydney, as well.
